How To Change Your Brain (you heard me right! You're not stuck with the one you have!)
Did you know that you're not stuck with the brain you have? You can actually change it!
You're probably thinking this sounds too good to be true, but it’s absolutely correct!
Before I give you some tips on this, check out the formal definition of this process of changing your brain:
Neuroplasticity: The ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization. These changes range from individual neurons making new connections, to systematic adjustments like cortical remapping (Examples of neuroplasticity include circuit and network changes that result from learning a new ability, environmental influences, practice, and psychological stress).
I was listening to an interview with Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Daniel Amen that was all about the power of how food can be used to reverse mental illness and brain disorders and my goodness... I wanted to give them a standing ovation!
Just think about this: if we chose to start consuming a real, whole food diet that was rich in plants (phytonutrients), omega3 fats, quality protein and more, we could potentially prevent mental health problems!
Furthermore, if we began the process of cutting out or drastically limiting the not-so-helpful ingredients such as sugar, trans fats, processed foods, bleached flour, etc., we could not only prevent but actually even help our body to reverse mental illnesses.
Did you know that your brain and your gut are connected? And did you know that the brain consumes more food than any organ in your body?
This has led scientists to a new concept called psychobiotics : probiotics and prebiotics that can influence your mental well-being.
I cannot even begin to tell you how excited this makes me! Are you familiar with the term "Food is Medicine"? This concept is wildly relevant here; this (the idea of psychobiotics) is using food to influence our mental health!
It’s time to start feeling good, making this your new normal.
Changing your diet NOW may help prevent so many of those common brain issues LATER.
Until next week,
